People witnessed another round of this half-human, half-animal fight. The donkey rose on its hind legs and lifted its front legs in such defensive postures against the woman that many large bruises appeared on her body, and many stick blows she intended were deflected. Just like these four-legged fencing masters, it sounded like a terrible screech (comparable to the offering of a Trumpet to war), attracting a crowd of people so that they blocked the view of the end. Truly, anyone who witnessed this can hardly be so donkey-like in understanding as to not believe that donkeys could also speak if they but had the ability. One might nearly fall into the heresy of Indian Slaves; which is a saying of those great pranksters of Apes; that they can speak well, but the sly devils do not want to speak, for fear that they would then also have to work. Yet it is to be guessed that the donkeys would willingly speak to avoid being forced to work. There is no swimming of any animal who will better express cunningness and defend zeal.
