The beauty of Saul's appearance and impressive height is presented in the Holy Scriptures as suitability befitting royal dignity. It seems to us as if it was an issue of special significance, which the Prophet Samuel took into account regarding the election of this king. Likewise, it is stated four times in the Scriptures that he needed to be handsome in appearance and of tall stature with other attributes. For this reason, the people's eyes and hearts could be inclined towards the king. That great man also references this in his speech to the people, saying: Do you not see that God has chosen him, there is none like him among the people. The barbarian peoples were therefore accustomed not only to honor physical greatness but also among virtuous peoples who revere those whom nature has endowed with more excellent body length, suitable for achieving great deeds. Aristotle said that such individuals born with bodies that surpass others, or are like the divine images, ought rightfully to rule over others.
