On the Study of Geometry and Perspective.

Alphonse Dufrenoi and his Commentator believe that young people should begin by learning Geometry, as it is the foundation of Perspective, without which nothing can be done in painting. Mr. de Piles adds that Geometry is also very useful for Architecture and everything that depends on it; finally, it is especially necessary for Sculptors.

Since Perspective assumes Geometry, it is natural to place its study here: and to focus on it even more strongly because the Painter derives a service from it that is impossible to do without, whatever project they may undertake.
